First British edition, good + hardcover (no dust jacket) (1/4 brown cloth with tan paper boards and brown illustration to cover) shows rubbing to cover edges and bumping to corners with bit of rub through at bottom corners, faint staining and soil to covers, name and date at front endpaper, mild soil and staining at page edges, couple of light internal splits and some other mild trace wear. 310 pages nicely illustrated in black & white. Still a pleasing copy of this first British edition of the noted work that would go on to be named the Newberry Award winner the following year.
